Shared from a client that I worked with last week on May 26, 2021. The photo with the foot waker was sent before we met--before photo. She sent me this photo today, June 2,2021, (after photo) with the following message: "Had to send this picture of my toes! I can't believe how much straighter they've gotten so quickly! Space between them!! Thank you again!"

Honest Movement Pilates serves the communities of Issaquah, Sammamish, Renton, Bellevue,
North Bend, Mercer Island, Snoqualmie, Maple Valley and Redmond
As a lifelong educator and someone who has had back surgery with continuing issues, I‘ve felt extremely cautious about working physically with any teacher who is not highly skilled and trained in her discipline. At Honest Movement, I take great comfort in the breadth and depth of each of the four instructors with whom I've had classes. Under their watchful eyes, I am learning correct body mechanics for the first time in my life!   I love that the teachers meet to discuss the needs and progress of their students. The instructors have even reached out to connect with my physical therapist.  My Pilates sessions are tailored to meet the needs my therapist suggests.
I have been a client for over three years and I always look forward to my sessions. What I am most pleased about is that Ki Lan is so knowledgeable about anatomy and physiology. She has worked with my physical therapists to help me recover from a nagging back injury. I know that my Pilates workouts are designed with my safe recovery and growing strength in mind. She demands the same care and attention of all her instructors. They are thoroughly trained professionals, never compromising a client's safety or physical well being. On top of all that classes and private sessions are just plain fun!
My pilates practice at Honest Movement Pilates has been an essential component of my quest for greater strength and balance. The bright and immaculate space and high quality instruction make it a much anticipated weekly retreat for me. Pilates has helped me increase my muscle tone and coordination, as well as improve my breathing and peace of mind – a great mix of mind and body focus. Ki Lan and her instructors are wonderful at customizing their workouts, making sure I'm continually challenged in the right way. They also pay close attention to my movements, highlighting and helping correct body issues no teacher has noticed before - taking pilates instruction a level above and beyond what's expected.
Through Pilates, I have learned the importance of core strength, balance, posture, and breathing techniques that I am now mindful of throughout all my everyday activities.   The ever-changing routines provide the strength training, stretching and toning that I want yet prevent the usual boredom associated with gym routines.  I love the private, one-on-one experience in the pleasant, private, and relaxed setting that HM Pilates provides.
I love the focus on my core; as an avid athlete, I never take the time or have the patience to work on something that isn't making me lose my breath or sweat buckets.  Pilates provides me with a great focus on something that I never pay attention to and demonstrates a way to take care of my body w/o feeling like I'm torturing it. And it's helped me to gain confidence in my breathing again as I recovered from bilateral pulmonary emboli by allowing me to focus on breathing in a positive light, rather than as a reminder of what I went through and how scary that period of time was for me,
Ki Lan won my admiration when I asked her about taking mat classes.  She responded that with her knowledge of my particular issues,  I would not be permitted to take mat classes at her studio.  Reformer work is what is appropriate for me.  I knew that professionally she was looking out for what was right for me rather being a studio owner who was trying to fill classes. This is a studio with expertise, integrity and heart!
I started Pilates in the hopes of helping with my chronic back pain from scoliosis, after trying physical therapy, massage therapy, and even injections. After years of "quick-fixes", I found that the core strength I gained from Pilates not only decreased my pain, but also helped improve my crooked posture! The knowledge that Ki Lan, Heidi, and all the instructors have about body mechanics brings an essential element to this workout that allows you to truly change your body. It is not just about firming, although it certainly does ... but I believe that continued work in Pilates will be a key factor in preventing my diagnosis from slowing me down ever again.
Before discovering Honest  Movement Pilates and Ki Lan I had terrible back pain which was only helped by having two steroid shots a year. My last shot was two and a half years ago when a physical therapist recommended that I take private pilates twice a week. I asked her if she knew of a good studio and she referred me to Honest Movement Pilates. Strengthening my core and learning more about my body and how to stay strong I have controlled my pain and feel more positive about the aging process. I have been very impressed with how professional and knowledgeable the instruction has been at Honest Movement.
What don't I love about pilates? I enjoy increased awareness of my body, as well as a greater understanding of how everything works together. I love the "whole body" approach, (that we work my whole body in each session). No more "upper body" days and "lower body" days. I love the simple and adaptive nature of pilates. No matter what kind of a day I'm having, I still get a good workout from pilates. Also, your approach and teaching style is amazing. Gentle, supportive, yet firm and effective. We make good progress and I've noticed huge changes in my body. I can't recommend pilates enough! My only worry is that if I tell too many people that the studio will get too crowded! Ki Lan is an excellent instructor, who makes sure that I know the reason behind the exercise and what groups we are working.
With Multiple Sclerosis, one of the keys to maintaining health is movement. Pilates (and more specifically, Ki Lan) has enabled me to keep my strength and flexibility despite multiple setbacks in my neurological status.  Regardless of how my body is behaving, she is able to tailor our sessions so that I get maximum benefits. Pilates has given me strength and body awareness that I never had before MS. Everyday I marvel at the changes in my body. I have increased strength and tone (even in the areas most affected by my MS) as well as flexibility. I never feel overly fatigued, yet I am always confident that I have gotten in a great workout. I leave our sessions with a tired body, but with an energized mind. I find myself practicing pilates breathing in all sorts of situations where I need to be focused yet still relaxed. I look forward to my sessions, eager to try new exercises and to see/feel how far my body has come.
I love the way my pilates workouts have both tamed a backache that I suffered with for 20 years but also help me work through short term injuries as well.  I never fail to feel great as I leave the studio–not tired or stressed, but invigorated.  The body awareness that I have gained through pilates helps me in every sport I attempt.  The instructors at the Honest Movement studio are all exceptionally well trained in the STOTT approach and, while very professional, are also fun to work with.    I have practiced at 4 different studios and this is far and away my favorite.
I have been training at Honest Movement Pilates since 2007. I quickly began receiving comments from friends and family as my body was being transformed by pilates. Some thought I had lost weight and some thought I was taller! Pilates truly lengthened and strengthened my muscles. Ki Lan is a master at working to correct specific body issues. Since training with her, my pain from scoliosis has vanished. Pilates and Honest Movement have just become part of my way of life!
I went to Honest Movement Pilates two months after delivering my baby with a saggy, flabby and depressingly big belly. A few months later, I find myself with a strong and (almost) flat abdomen which I cannot stop touching, just because it's so nice to feel the muscles under my skin. I love going to my Pilates class. This is the first time in many years that I have stuck to an exercise routine, and it's because the classes are fun, the instructors are great and the other students are fun to be around. You work hard, but it's such a pleasure to do it that you wouldn't notice it, if it weren't for the very obvious results in your body.
I have attended pilates classes, private sessions and duet sessions for over two years. I am 55 years old and was very deconditioned with some medical restrictions when I started. I really didn't think I would be able to keep up with the exercises. I have been so amazed at my progress and health status. I have gained flexibility, endurance and most importantly strength. I have significantly decreased some pain I was experiencing in my back. Of course, I was cleared first to participate in these exercises and it was actually recommended. Of all the exercises I have tried to accomplish my goals, Pilates has been the most successful for me. All the staff at Honest Movement Pilates are very accommodating. They modify the exercises during each session to meet each person's personal needs. The studio offers use of multiple equipment that further enhances achievement of goals. I have been extraordinarily satisfied with my partnering with Honest Movement Pilates to achieve my health fitness goals.
Honest Movement Pilates instructor Ki Lan Black's knowledge of the body and its movement allows you to not only obtain your goals but exceed them. Honest Movement Pilates has given me the tools to feel better by teaching me the correct techniques for body movement, posture, and breathing. When I became a client at Honest Movement Pilates I was in shape; but after months of Pilates I am now defined.
I was very hesitant to trust anyone after several disappointments with chiropractic care and physical therapy. Ki Lan really listens to my concerns, and finds exercises that will benefit me without causing pain. My work with Ki Lan Black has helped me become virtually pain-free and completely changed my quality of life.
Working with Deb has helped my overall mobility and health. After having two hip replacements on my right hip I am very careful about what I do and I have complete confidence working with Deb - she really must know hundreds of ways to work on and for sore body parts! Plus, she is fun, always on time, and very professional.
I wanted to say that I can not say anymore how different I feel after ONE session with Deb today. I have felt chronic tightness in my hips, legs, and back for about four years. I am only 48yrs. but have been feeling so tight that keeping up with my kids has been hard. Today I worked with Deb on the Yamuna Balls for the hour appointment and 10 hours later I am so amazed to be able to sit on the floor and not feel the pain I usually feel. I am so excited to see how things will be after a few months.
Thank you Deb....
Working with Ki Lan and Michelle at Honest Movement has totally changed my body. I suffered a terrible car accident in 2002 where I fractured three vertebrae and ruptured two discs. After years of surgeries, daily medication and physical therapy I was only able to barely manage my pain. In 2011, I had my son via c-section and another back surgery within a month of each other. I found Honest Movement online and made my first appointment three months after the c-section/back surgery. After approximately a year of instruction in both pilates and Yamuna body rolling I had NO chronic pain. My whole body became stronger and I was moving more efficiently that I ever had before. Because this exercise system works from the inside out, it strengthens organs, muscles and bones stimulating them to function correctly and in harmony. All the instructors have amazing technical knowledge of bio mechanics and work very hard to cater to your specific body needs. The exercise has healed the trauma in my back by strengthening the muscles that support the spine, freeing me of pain and saving my quality of life.
