"As a lifelong educator and someone who has had back surgery with continuing issues, I've felt extremely cautious about working physically with any teacher who is not highly skilled and trained in her discipline. At Honest Movement, I take great comfort in the breadth and depth of each of the four instructors with whom I've had classes. Under their watchful eyes, I am learning correct body mechanics for the first time in my life!   I love that the teachers meet to discuss the needs and progress of their students. The instructors have even reached out to connect with my physical therapist.  My Pilates sessions are tailored to meet the needs my therapist suggests."

Ki LanKi Lan (pronounced ‘key DAHN’) Black is the owner of Honest Movement Pilates. Ki Lan has been teaching movement, choreographing, and performing professionally for over 20 years. Her teaching experience began with teaching dance. That passion to teach in a precise and body-mind beneficial way has transformed into how she teaches Pilates. She has seen how Pilates has transformed herself, especially after having a baby, and others to become stronger and more bodily aware. Ki Lan is a fully certified STOTT PILATES® instructor and a certified Yamuna Body Rolling® Practitioner.

Ki Lan understands how debilitating injuries can be and will do all that she can to help you prevent them. She also had chronic back pain for over a year, and finally after seeing 11 doctors had a laminectomy surgery to shave down a spinal disc in her low back. Her back pain and dance interest prompted her to take a more academic approach to the body. She started going back to school to focus on sciences and has been participating in educational programs about the body ever since.

Kimberly GoodmanKimberly Goodman, a Senior Instructor, is a STOTT PILATES® certified instructor. She has taught at Honest Movement since 2007. She practiced Pilates for five years before beginning STOTT PILATES® training in order to learn more about Pilates and her own body. She didn't know that this would lead into a love of teaching Pilates. Being in competitive sports most of her life, Pilates was a whole new world. The more she learned about the Pilates method and anatomy and movement the more she loved Pilates. Kimberly takes an athletic approach in teaching Pilates and enjoys tailoring each client's workout to their strengths as well as their needs.

Kimberly is an Elementary School Social Worker and enjoys talking with and getting to know people and has enjoyed working with adults in addition to children. She takes an open and honest approach to Pilates practice and is mindful of creating a comfortable studio community where all people feel both welcomed and challenged. Being from Chicago, she has a great appreciation for the surrounding mountains and greenery and the amazing opportunities that surround the Issaquah area and beyond. Kimberly is an avid sports fan and enjoys being active and trying new things.

Heidi MartenHeidi Marten, Senior Instructor, discovered Pilates during college, and she loved the way it made her feel. She is certified in the STOTT PILATES® method. She grew up dancing ballet, practicing gymnastics, and swimming.  Heidi believes that the anatomical approach of STOTT PILATES® helps to rebalance muscles, which in turn helps prevent injuries, making it an important exercise routine for everyone from the sedentary desk worker to the pro athlete.

Michelle Wong Michelle Wong, Senior Instructor, obtained a B.S. in Systems + Information Engineering at the University of Virginia. In that former life, she had a great career as a software engineer. During those years, however, she knew deep inside that there was something bigger out there for her. After much contemplation and following that inner voice, she knew that being able to inspire others to live a healthier lifestyle and empower people to achieve their dreams was her calling.

Michelle has been practicing Pilates since 2002 and wanted to become an instructor after her first class. Pilates has improved her body awareness, breathing, core strength, and recovery time from injuries. She enjoys connecting with her clients and loves seeing them reap the benefits of Pilates. She received her instructor training at Bodycenter Studios in Seattle, WA, and is certified in the STOTT PILATES® method. She is honoured and excited to be part of the Honest Movement community.

In addition, Michelle is a life-long learner and has studied a year of Naturopathic and Classical Chinese medicine. She is also a health coach, and is passionate about inspiring others to making healthier choices. In her spare time, she enjoys doing Pilates, NIA, yoga, ultimate frisbee, and spending time with friends.
