Awareness is the Key to Change
Like any new subject to a student, education starts with vocabulary and
principles relative to the new subject. Awareness then grows and
is applied. In regards to Pilates, as you learn more about your
body and how it works, you will establish a mind-body connection.
You will then begin to hear your body reveal your unique posture and
movement characteristics. Come
find out what your body is telling you!
What is Pilates?
Pilates is an anaerobic form of holistic exercise designed by
Joseph H.
Pilates (1880-1968), to strengthen, lengthen, and balance the body. It
focuses on breath, core strength, joint stabilization, and
coordination. Pilates is not about tiresome repetitions. These gentle
exercises are to be performed precisely and slowly with fewer
repetitions (generally maximum 10). This gives more biofeedback to let
your brain recognize the honest movement of the muscles that are firing
or not. Pilates has many benefits, such as: improved
posture; strengthening without building bulk; sliming down and toning
up; feeling energized; overcoming injury; improving flexibility and movement
for those with Rheumatoid Arthritis and Parkinson's; and feeling
better in our own bodies.
